MICROMAX, one of the leading manufacturer of mobile phones and accessories, today announced its first ever foray into the tablet markett.  MICROMAX introduced us to a new generation of Android tablets - THE MICROMAX FUNBOOK.

MICROMAX FUNBOOK, though not one of the best of the tablets out there is still a good contender for an entry level tablet.

Priced at Rs. 6500, you cannot expect an iPad killer out over here but performs reasonably well with Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 OS running on top of the hardware..

Some of the features/Specifications of Micromax Funbook include:

1. Capacitive 7 inch touch screen
2. Android 4.0 - Ice Cream Sandwich [ICS]
3. Content tie ups with meda partners
4. 512 MB internal RAM
5. 4GB internal SSD FLASH memory expandable upto 32GB using SDCARD support
6. 1.2 GHz single core processor
7. 3G support with TATA PHOTON EVDO USB dongle bundled with the package
8. Mini HDMI
9. 2800 mAh battery

Cost Price: INR 6,499

Having look at the announcement and the internal specs.of Micromax Funbook, we  Yampers ought to tell you people some of the pros and cons of these kinds of entry level tablets from vendors like Micromax:

Pros of Micromax Funbook:

1. Good product for an entry level tablet helping in setting the Indian market for Tablets
2. Content tie-ups were a good strategy by Micromax. However we got to tell you that the idea itself was not a new one. Apple always does this in the US to support for media consumption of its iPad customers and even here in India, the start-up Notion-Ink tried to do the same with their ADAM tablet (though did not succeed by miles with this initiative)
3. Price point for a 3G bundled Micromax Funbook is very affordable for the common man
4. Supports Google Play Store, so good amount of app support

Cons of Micromax Funbook:

1. I am pressed to say this, the Micromax Funbook definitely looks like a cheap knock-off of any chinese tablets out there.

2. More or less running Chinese hardware - probably the heart of the Funbook - the CPU chipset being sourced from Taiwanese Mediatek - a silicon company known to drive most of the chinese KIRF products

3. Weak battery of 2800mAh  - Battery has got to be one of the most weakest in terms of storage capacity in this tablet. Now come on, 2800 mAh battery for a 7 inch tablet running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich [ICS]?? You got to be kidding me...even the Galaxy SII smartphone has got a 2000mAh battery! And a Samsung Galaxy 7 tablet cotains a 4000mAh battery for a 7 hour usage

4. Lack of Full USB port. The Micromax Funbook neither sports a Full USB nor a micro USB (which has become the norms of a smart mobile device these days. So kick in another cable for your general usage!

5. Poor display resolution for a tablet.

6. Mere 0.3 MP VGA front facing camera for video calls and chats. Does not support a back camera either, though that is not an absolute necessary for a tablet.

7. Sluggish user experience, even though ICS by itself is good, the hardware ruins the performance and hence the experience and feel good factor.

8. May not support other USB 3G dongles due to lack of Linux driver support for other modem vendors.

All in all we have a mixed response for this device and in general opinion, this device goes more on a negative thumbs down from our side.
